Civil Service looking forward to working with The Mill

Colleagues from the local Civil Service who are looking forward to hosting advice sessions at The Mill have handed over a donation to support the specialised care of St Catherine’s Hospice.

The ‘Civil Service Local’ initiative – whereby the organisation organises one to one advice sessions and appointments out in the community – is looking forward to running sessions from The Mill, the hospice’s new cafe and community hub in the grounds of St Catherine’s Park.

They have already successfully worked with the hospice to host advice sessions for patients, carers, volunteers and staff and are looking to develop the relationship further next year. Topics they will be able to help with include benefits, land registry issues, passports and tax credits.

At the launch of The Mill, Civil Servant Vicky Mills handed over a cheque for £260 to the hospice – funds which were raised at a family fun day in September.

Vicky, who is also set to give her time as a volunteer advisor at The Mill, said: “We’re delighted to hand over this money to support the important work of St Catherine’s Hospice, and we’re very much looking forward to working with The Mill more in the new year.

“Often, people want to sit down with someone face to face and discuss their concerns or the problems they’re facing – rather than having to ring around different helplines at what’s already a difficult time. This is where we hope the sessions from The Mill will really help people and ease some of those practical burdens.

“I think The Mill is a fantastic idea and a great resource for the community. It should help spread the word further about St Catherine’s and give those who are staying there or visiting a different setting to enjoy and relax in. We’re very happy to be involved and part of it.”
